Songs of Praise  -  end of June 2016

At this service various people from the community choose a favourite hymn and explain to rest of us their reasons behind the choice. For example, the Parish Council chairman, Ian Ventham, choose “Eternal Father Strong to Save” as it reminded him of his R.N.L.I. days.  The other favourite hymns that we sang were “Amazing Grace”, “Bread of Heaven”, “ Jerusalem”, “Angel Voices”, “In Heavenly Love Abiding”,  “How Great Thou Art,”.

We were joined at this service by many extra people, but particularly we were joined by a large group from the “Pop In Performers”. At their last show they had raised a staggering one thousand five hundred pound plus, to be donated to the “Roof Fund”. At the end of the service they presented Sarah, of our church wardens, with a very large cheque, followed by the singing of their favourite songs from the show. It was a lovely end to this special service.

The day of the service was also the day for celebrating the patron saint of Bere Regis’ church, St John the Baptist. It was particularly good to be celebrating this day with many extra people.
